The history of Bungo Beef (the best quality cattle breed in Japan) originating from Oita is a long one. In 1921, at the National Livestock Exhibition in Tokyo, the top place was honored to "Chiyoyama", which is a representative beef from the Oita region of Japan. Fast-forward to the year of 2017, Bungo Beef was again prized in the Wagyu Olympics.

There are 3 strict requirements to be certified as Oita Wagyu:
1. Wagyu Grading MUST be A4 or above (A5 being the highest in the grading system nationally)
2. 100% Traceability to the individual farm.
3. Specific herding techniques and dietary requirements.

In recognition of 100 years of Oita Wagyu history, every true Oita Wagyu beef should be labeled with the "100-year history" logo.
Oita Bungo Beef is nationally well known for its glamourous marbling, rich flavor, and melting tenderness.
